Matching the system to the building
Hikvision covers everything from a single front door to a full apartment entrance, and the right configuration depends on the building rather than the budget. Broadly:
- House or single premises — one door station at the entrance and one or two indoor monitors inside, with the app for when nobody's home. Straightforward to install and easy to live with.
- Small commercial or a few tenancies — a multi-button panel at the street door, a station per tenancy, and door release tied into the access control.
- Apartment buildings — an entrance panel with a maintainable directory, stations in each apartment, and a plan for how resident changes get handled after handover.
When the cameras are already Hikvision, adding the intercom to the same platform means the visitor at the door and the footage of the driveway are one login apart. It also means one manufacturer's support path, one firmware cycle to manage and one contractor accountable for the lot — which is worth more day to day than most spec-sheet differences.
Retrofit, wiring and what your building will take
The biggest cost variable in any intercom job is what's already in the walls. Some installations retrofit onto existing cabling; others need new runs, which in an occupied apartment building is where budgets go. Before quoting we establish what cabling exists, whether it can be reused, and whether the entrance has power and network where they'll be needed. A quote written without checking that is a guess.
Already running a different intercom?

Can a Hikvision intercom work with my existing Hikvision cameras?
Yes — and it's the main reason people choose one. The door station and the cameras sit in the same app on the same account, so answering the door and checking a camera happen in one place rather than two.
Can I answer the door from my phone?
Yes. Remote answering lets you see and speak to a visitor and release the door from anywhere with a connection, which is how most people handle deliveries when nobody is home.
What's the difference between a villa station and an apartment entrance panel?
A villa station is a single-button door station for one dwelling. An apartment entrance panel serves many tenancies, with a directory visitors use to call the right unit and a station inside each apartment.
Can it use my existing cabling?
Sometimes — it depends what's installed and how the building is wired. It's the single biggest cost variable, so we establish it before quoting rather than after.
Can you replace just the indoor monitor?
Often yes. A single failed unit is usually a single replacement rather than a system rebuild, provided the replacement matches what's installed. We check compatibility before quoting.
